Download Slacker Uprising Today!

Anyone who knows me relatively well knows my second largest interest is American politics. I’m not really interested in running for office, don’t get the wrong impression. However, I do believe everyone should take part in voting. Slacker Uprising is about Michael Moore’s college tour to energize young voters during the 2004 presidential campaign. You may recall I was also a fan of Moore’s Fahrenheit 9/11 which is one of the many reasons I’m pleased to say that his newest film is available for free online.
I’m not able to comment about the film’s particulars yet since I’m still waiting for the free version to go on iTunes but it does sound like it’s leaning liberal (no duh, I know.) “The choir, especially on our side of the political fence, is often fairly dejected and could use a good song every now and then.” I don’t agree fully with this view, I’d still rather have something that at least tries to be bipartisan. Anyway, the documentary should still be full of his quintessential humor and insight and judging from the trailer, it looks like it’s more about getting young people out to vote more than anything else. You can check out the trailer below or download the film here.
Update: After watching Slacker Uprising last night I found out why the film never made an appearance in theaters. It would have flopped, hard. It’s nothing like Moore’s documentaries, in fact, it feels almost like he made this film to debunk the lies people tell about him. Even I know a few people who spread around a little cartoon of a dead American soldier with a caption underneath that reads “Just one of the many reasons Michael Moore has the freedom to mouth off at the Oscars.” I understand his reasoning for wanting to respond to his critics, but it doesn’t make for a very interesting film.
When Slacker Uprising isn’t trying to protect Michael’s back it’s constantly being sidetracked by celebrity appearances. I’m so happy that I’ve learned Rosanne makes a worse public speaker than a housewife. In simple terms, it just doesn’t feel like a “get out and vote” film. I recommend watching it merely because there seems to be a trace of that message left in the scenes and hell, it’s free.
