This week has been a considerably slow week as far as writing is concerned. I had 3 exams (and one small quiz) to deal with and Robb is still adjusting to his life in Houston. I believe he is living atop a palm tree growing out a goatee. Anyway, this will soon be an issue of the past. The acclaimed Jesse Balzer will be writing soon and should fill in our blanks. This is also another incredibly slow week for movies unless you enjoy Hannah Montana or Eva Longoria. My predictions from last week were far from right which means no more predictions from Daniel. Cloverfield was trumped by Meet The Spartans, Rambo, and 27 Dresses. I don’t think anyone expected it to fall by that much. Enough about last week lets talk about the future.

Strange Wilderness opens today and it includes Steve Zahn (Rescue Dawn, That Thing You Do) and Allen Covert (who is probably better known as one of Adam Sandler’s wingmen). The movie revolves around a failing wildlife show called Strange Wilderness. The pair, along with the help of a beautiful blonde (oh jeeze), try to save the program by finding Bigfoot. The only interesting aspect of the movie is Jonah Hill making a guest appearance. His part resembles something Chris Farley used to do back on SNL with a mix of the bus driver from Billy Madison. As much as I want to love movies Steve Zahn is in, I can’t. With the exception of a few select films, he has made horrible choices in regards to working roles. Hopefully he’ll rectify himself soon.

One movie I can guarantee I will never see is The Eye. Jessica Alba receives a haunted pair of eyes so she can see for the first time since a “childhood tragedy.” After a successful surgery she starts seeing some dead people and other abnormal things. Doesn’t sound scary to me. Just be happy you can see again lady. Haven’t you ever heard the expression “you can’t have your cake and eat it too?” On the other hand, one movie that does sound a bit freaky is Over Her Dead Body. Eva Longoria dies on her wedding day and haunts her best friend so that she’ll break up with her ex-fiancée. You’ve had me spooked since day one.

There is one film that sounds interesting at this point. The Silence Before Bach is a drama that looks at the relationship of Bach’s music and his own image. As you would imagine it’s a bio-pic along the same lines as Walk Hard and I’m Not There. I don’t mean that it’s a comedy or that it features a set of stars acting as the same person. Rather it continues to question what should be considered a bio-pic. It also has a great score to go along with it which is one of the main reasons I’m interested. Find it in a theater near you (and then let me know where).

I will continue to play catch up this week. I plan on seeing There Will Be Blood this weekend and expect to hear more about that film if I do. Considering there is a lack of good movies coming out this week I suggest you play catch up too. Here are a few recommendations: Atonement, Michael Clayton, Juno, The Orphanage, Charlie Wilson’s War, and The Diving Bell And The Butterfly.
